Privacy Policy

Cover Easy ("we", "us", "our") is a New Zealand marketing service that introduces consumers to licensed insurance advisers. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through covereasy.co.nz, how we use it, and who we share it with. We comply with the Privacy Act 2020 and, because we collect limited health information, the Health Information Privacy Code 2020.

1. Information we collect

When you complete our online form we collect:

• Contact details: first name, email address, and mobile number.
• Insurance context: cover types you're interested in, any existing cover, budget, preferred call time, and whether someone depends on you financially.
• Personal circumstances: month and year of birth, employment status, occupation category, personal income band, housing situation and (if applicable) mortgage size.
• Health information: whether you smoke or vape, and whether you have any of a short list of common health conditions (for example diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cancer, heart attack or stroke, or gout).
• Technical and marketing data: IP address, device type, page URL, referrer, UTM parameters, and a session identifier stored in a first-party cookie.

We only store this information once you have verified your mobile number by entering the one-time code we text to you.

2. How we use your information

• To match you with a single licensed insurance adviser suited to your situation.
• To send that adviser your details so they can contact you.
• To send a one-time SMS code to verify your mobile number.
• To operate, secure, and improve our website (including rate limiting and fraud prevention).
• To measure marketing performance in aggregate.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with more than one adviser for the purpose of contacting you.

3. Health information

The health information we collect is limited to smoking or vaping status and a short checklist of common conditions. It is collected for the specific purpose of helping the adviser you are matched with prepare for their call and match you to insurers most likely to offer suitable cover. We handle health information in accordance with the Health Information Privacy Code 2020, including the rules on collection, storage, accuracy, retention, use, disclosure and access.

4. Who we share it with

When you submit and verify your details, we share the information above with one licensed New Zealand insurance adviser (a Financial Advice Provider registered on the Financial Service Provider Register and regulated by the Financial Markets Authority) for the sole purpose of contacting you about insurance options. Once contacted, your relationship is with that adviser and their own privacy policy will also apply.

We also use trusted third-party service providers who process data on our behalf: our hosting and database provider, our SMS provider (for the verification code), and our email provider (for transactional emails). These providers act as our processors and are contractually required to protect your information.

5. Storage and security

Your information is stored on secure servers with encryption in transit and at rest. Access is restricted to authorised personnel and processors. We retain your details only as long as necessary for the purpose we collected them, and to meet legal or regulatory obligations.

6. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020 you can:

• Ask us what information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate.
• Ask us to delete your information (subject to any legal retention obligations).
• Withdraw your consent to be contacted at any time.

7. Cookies

We use a first-party session cookie to prevent abuse and rate-limit form submissions. We may also use analytics cookies to understand how the site is used in aggregate. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

8. Complaints

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
